Abstract:

The present paper is based on the rich collection of the Micronesian expeditions undertaken by Professor T. Esaki. The family Noctuidae is represented by 63 species in the collection, excepting those belonging to the subfamily Hypeninae and a part of the subfamily Noctuinae which were left untouched for future investigation. The collection is consisting of those collected by Professor Esaki, Professor K. Yasumatsu and several other entomologists and is now preserved in the Entomological Laboratory of the Kyusyu Imperial University, Hukuoka. Before going further, I express my hearty thanks to Professors Teiso Esaki and Keizo Yasumatsu for their kind guidance in the course of the present study. The Noctuid fauna of Micronesia was hirtherto very insufficiently known, only 35 species were so far known up to present as enumerated in the following list. The number in parentheses are corresponding to those of literature at the end of the present paper.
